The next Android-based mobile phone for handset vendor Motorola that should be launched on Verizon Wireless' airwaves is the Motorola DROID 2, a device that keeps on emerging into the wild. Following recent leaks and rumors on it, which unveiled a wide range of details on its specifications list and capabilities, a series of live photos with it surfaced, offering us a better look at the second QWERTY-enabled DROID by Motorola.

According to some of the latest rumors on the matter, we're getting closer and closer to this handset's release on Verizon's airwaves. Recently, August 12 was said to be the lucky day, the same day when AT&T puts on sale the first touchscreen slider from RIM, the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Verizon and Motorola kept mum on the subject until now, but that won't stop enthusiasts from hopping the device would indeed be released in about one week from now.

On thing that it certain is that Motorola seems set to rise the bar with some of its latest Android-based devices, namely with the DROID X and the upcoming DROID 2. Just as the original DROID, these are high-end devices aimed at helping the Android platform gain a little more market share in front of rival solutions. However, they come with enhanced hardware specs, being able to offer an improved user experience.

The specs list of DROID 2 reportedly includes a 1GH processor, a 5-megapixel photo snapper, a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, complemented by a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 8 GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space. The phone should land with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, GPS receiver, accelerometer, proximity sensor, and more.

The DROID 2 by Motorola is expected to be launched with Google's Android 2.2 operating system right from the start, becoming this way the first handset in Verizon's offering to pack the solution from release day. The phone's advanced specs should complement the features Froyo brings forth, including that 3G mobile hotspot functionality DROID by Motorola does not include. Until some official details on the device emerge, we should have a look at the new photos available with it, courtesy of Howard Forums (via IntoMobile).
