It looks like the rumored release of the Motorola DROID 2 Global on November 11th wasn't correct at all. The smartphone is already available for purchase today from Verizon Wireless.

The DROID 2 Global can be bought for as low as 199.99$ with a two-year contract or for 559.99$ free of plan.

Unlike its DROID 2 sibling, which packs a 1GHz CPU, the DROID 2 Global comes with an upgraded TI OMAP 1.2GHz processor with dedicated GPU. This is the first smartphone to feature such a powerful processor.

The DROID 2 Global prides itself with quad-band GSM capabilities, enabling users to make and receive calls and check their emails from over 200 countries. Its GSM capabilities are available in addition to All–Digital, 800/1900, CDMA EVDO rev.A compatibility.

This marks another premiere for Motorola, which is now launching its first smartphone fully compatible with two different cellular network technologies, GSM and CDMA.

The device comes with a wide range of services such as: 3G Mobile Hotspot with support for up to 5 devices, Visual Voice Mail capable, VZ Navigator via the Android Market, Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile via Android Market, My Verizon capable, V CAST Media Manager capable, VZW Backup Assistant, City ID and Motorola Over the Air Software Updates.

Motorola DROID 2 Global runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) platform and packs a full slide–out QWERTY keyboard.

The device integrates the full suite of Google apps including Google Maps with Street View, transit and Wikipedia information, GTalk with Presence, Gmail, YouTube, Latitude and Google Calendar.

Other key features of the smarpthone include: 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 854 x 480 pixels resolution, 5.0-megapixel camera with autofocus, face detection and image stabilization, 8GB internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 8GB card included), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n.

Just to emphasize the smartphone's “Global” side, Motorola has included 3 handy international charging adapters in the sales package.
