Motorola Mobility has just announced the availability of its Motorola DEFY+ rugged smartphone in India, though the device went on sale last week.

The DEFY+ is available for purchase since November 8 from Flipkart retailer. Customers who want to acquire Motorola's rugged device will have to pay Rs 17,990 ($365 or 265 EUR) upfront. Today, the handset maker confirmed the phone's suggested retail price aforementioned.

Built on the success of the popular Motorola DEFY, the DEFY+ comes with an improved processor and battery, as well as a newer operating system.

Unlike the original DEFY, which was delivered with Android 2.1 Eclair at launch, the DEFY+ is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform. However, both phones feature MOTOBLUR user interface with Live Widgets.

Motorola DEFY+ was designed to withstand extreme conditions and received the IP67 certification, which makes it dust and water proof (up to 1m for 30 mins), as well as scratch resistant due to the Corning Gorilla Glass display.

Hardware-wise, the DEFY+ is equipped with a slightly better 1 GHz TI OMAP 3620 processor, whereas the DEFY embeds an 800 MHz TI OMAP3610 CPU.

Furthermore, the rugged phone packs 2 GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2 GB memory card included).

Motorola DEFY+, our latest life proof smartphone, delivers the endurance and design strength to keep up with even the most demanding lifestyles. With faster Web-browsing, social networking tools and great entertainment capabilities, it puts friends and fun in easy reach and lets you stay connected wherever you go,” said Rajan Chawla, Mobile Devices business country head-sales and operations, India and South West Asia, Motorola Mobility.

In addition, Motorola DEFY+ sports a large 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen with support for 480 x 854 resolution, as well as a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash.

According to Motorola, the phone's 1700 Li-Polymer battery should provide up to 384 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.
