After UK, Italy is the second European counrty to receive Motorola's DEFY+ rugged Android smartphone.

The handset will be available for purchase for a suggested retail price of €300 (about $406) starting October.

As the name suggests, DEFY+ is an updated version of the original Motorola DEFY smartphone, which was released on the market in October 2010.

The new and enhanced version of the DEFY comes with an improved 1GHz single core processor and a better 1700 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

In addition, Motorola DEFY+ is delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, unlike DEFY users who can only hope for Android 2.2 Froyo.

Just like its predecessor, Motorola DEFY+ offers users protection against hazardous environments thanks to its IP67 certification.

The phone is water resistant, scratch resistant and features a dust proof design to make sure it survives a rain, a day on the beach, or a party.

Motorola DEFY+, our latest life proof smartphone, delivers the endurance and design strength to keep up with even the most demanding lifestyles, along with the social and entertainment capabilities that put friends and fun in easy reach. We designed Motorola DEFY+ with all the smartphone features you need for a demanding lifestyle,” said Paolo Prearo, mobile device business Italy general manager, Motorola Mobility Italia.

Motorola DEFY+ can easily turn into a running mate thanks to the pre-loaded CardioTrainer application that allows users to view and track their work out progress.

The phone features a medium-size 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 480 x 854 pixels resolution, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Although Motorola does not mention it in the press release, the DEFY+ comes with MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets.

Furthermore, the phone packs 2GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and microSD card slot for memory expansion (2GB microSD memory card included).
