Motorola DEFY Available in Germany for 350 EUR

Announced one month ago, the ruggedized Motorola DEFY is now hitting the shelves in Germany through retailer's The Phone House Germany stores. The Android smartphone is available only in Germany for the moment and can be bought for 350 EUR free of contract.

Motorola DEFY is IP67 certified for protection against dust and water. The smartphone is water submersible, as it can stay under water for up to 1m for 30 mins.

If you're looking for a nice design and slim form factor skip this one. DEFY is rather bulky and not so good looking, so base your choice on its technical features only.

The device is powered by a TI OMAP3610 800MHz processor and runs Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system.

It comes with a 3.7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors support (480x854 pixels resolution), Gorilla Glass display, touch sensitive controls, MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets, multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

Motorola DEFY boasts a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, image stabilization, as well as video recording capabilities.

Other key features of the smartphone include: HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, microUSB v2.0, 2GB internal storage, 512 MB RAM, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB card included), GPS with A-GPS support, Stereo FM radio with RDS.

The device features full social networking integration with multiple services such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace. It also comes with the full Google package: Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk.

The phone's 1540 mAh Li-Polymer battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 6 hours and 40 minutes of talk time or 240 hours of standby.

As the smartphone has been tagged as a rugged phone, it will most likely be used in hazardous environments, thus Motorola also added an active noise cancellation with dedicated mic feature that enables owners to use the phone even in noisy areas.
