Motorola DEFY+ is one of the most decent choices for Android enthusiasts who cannot afford a high-end smartphone. Although the device was unveiled back in August, it’s still one of the most popular rugged Android-based phones available in the market.

O2 Ireland has just announced that the Motorola DEFY+ is now available for 249.99 EUR (385 USD) on prepay, and from free on contract.

The sequel to the highly-acclaimed Motorola DEFY, the DEFY+ comes with an enhanced processor, a better battery and a newer operating system.

Other than that both smartphone have the same features and similar design. Just like its predecessor, Motorola DEFY+ is IP67 certified, which means it can withstand dust, water splashes and accidental drops.

We are delighted to be launching the Motorola DEFY+. As phones become smarter and increasingly central to our lifestyles, we are sometimes using them in more challenging environments: in the gym, in the rain, on the beach or at a nightclub,” said Brendan Moran, head of consumer operations at O2.

Furthermore, the rugged smartphone is powered by a single core TI OMAP 3620 CPU clocked at 1 GHz, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX530 graphics processing unit. The original DEFY is equipped with a slightly weaker 800 MHz processor, but features the same GPU.

With the 1 GHz processor and the newer Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, Motorola DEFY+ runs 25% faster than the original DEFY.

On the back, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, as well as video recording. Unfortunately, the DEFY+ lacks a front-facing camera for video calls.

In addition, Motorola DEFY+ packs 2 GB onboard memory, 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB, 2GB memory card included).

Motorola DEFY+, our latest life proof smartphone, delivers the endurance and design strength to keep up with even the most demanding lifestyles, along with the social and entertainment capabilities that put friends and fun in easy reach,” concluded Victoria McManus, marketing director, UK & Ireland, Motorola Mobility.
