Moto X, the first smartphone in Motorola’s new lineup, has been finally confirmed in an official manner, although the actual device has yet to be showed to the world.

Speaking to AllThingsD at the D11 conference, Dennis Woodside, Motorola’s head, confirmed that the Moto X handset is indeed real, and also unveiled that it will be available this summer.

Furthermore, Motorola issued a press release soon after his interview at the conference, and reiterated Woodside’s statement, while also confirming that the smartphone will be their new flagship device, as Droid-life reports.

However, it seems that Moto X is only one of the handsets that Motorola will make official in the coming months.

Additionally, the company said that every Moto X unit that will be sold in the United States will be “designed, engineered and assembled in the USA,” making it the first such smartphone.

Woodside also explained that the upcoming device will feature a series of always-on sensors that will allow it to stand up in the crowd.

He also said that the MOTOACTV watch (which was collecting location and heart-rate information at all times) was the source of inspiration for the building of the new smartphone with battery-friendly sensor technology inside.

“What Motorola learned was how to manage very-low-power sensors. They took those learnings to the smartphone,” he said.

Furthermore, Woodside said that Motorola would be focused on accessories as well, but that it would not bring new tablet PCs to shelves in the near future.

“A lot of what we know isn’t as important in the tablet. For now we haven’t been focused on that. That may change,” he said.

“We’re going to play a different game than Motorola has played in the recent past. It’s not going to radically change the world in the first launch, but we do think that the products will find their markets,” he added.
