The company is still evaluating ICS' release for some devices

Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility is one of the handset vendors set to provide users with updates to the latest flavor of Google’s Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich.

The company has just published on its website some more info on the plans it has for releasing the update for various handsets it pushed to shelves around the world.

For the time being, the one thing that is certain is that most of the Motorola handsets confirmed to taste Ice Cream Sandwich will receive it starting with the second quarter of the year.

“We know how excited you’ve been about getting the next stage of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for your Motorola devices,” Motorola notes in a recent blog post.

“Our engineers and designers are combing through the code and preparing it for you. We are pleased to provide more details to the ICS upgrades.”

The handset vendor will start the delivery of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to devices such as RAZR, MT917, XT928, XOOM WiFi Only and XOOM Family Edition in the second quarter of the year.

Moreover, it announced that ICS for PHOTON 4G, ATRIX 4G MB860, XOOM 2, XOOM 2 Media Edition, and XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1 will begin in the third quarter of the year.

At the moment, the mobile phone maker is still evaluating the release of this software update for devices such as DROID 4, DROID BIONIC, DROID RAZR, DROID RAZR MAXX, DROID XYBOARD 8.2 and 10.1, ELECTRIFY, ATRIX / ATRIX 4G MB860/MB861/ME860 in Asia, PHOTON 4G in Japan, XOOM WiFi + 3G MZ600 and XOOM WiFi + 3G outside the US.

For the time being, the only thing that Motorola has unveiled in regard to Ice Cream Sandwich for these devices is that it will provide more info when it has decided something on the matter.

The same applies for a series of other handsets from the company, which include only 512MB of RAM: ADMIRAL, DROID 3, DROID X2, MILESTONE 3 / MOTOROLA XT860, MILESTONE X2, MT870, MOTOROLA PRO+, XT605, XT615 / XT685 / MOTOLUXE, and XT882.
