Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility is expected to offer its Android users the possibility to enjoy the latest enhancements that the platform includes, through delivering updates to the new Gingerbread flavor of the OS.

The company's DROID series of handsets would be included in the update schedule as well, and the handset vendor already confirmed the move.

Apparently, the release of these software updates would depend on Verizon's approval process, but the good news is that they are coming to devices out there.

Among the mobile phones set to receive it, we can count the Motorola DROID X, DROID 2, DROID 2 Global, and DROID Pro, at least this is what a Motorola employee stated.

As stated above, Motorola already confirmed the move, via a post on their support forums:

I can say that the Droid X update is currently scheduled to be released before the end of the second quarter of this year or sooner.

The other updates are currently scheduled to be released before the end of the third quarter or sooner.

The above estimates are dependent on Verizon approving the OTA (over the air) updates.

Of course, this is not the first time when info on the upcoming availability of an Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update for the Motorola DROID X, for example, emerge, but it's great news that all has been confirmed.

All that it remains to be seen is how fast would Verizon work on approving the software update for the series of DROID handsets it has on shelves from Motorola.

Previous rumors suggested that the software update is about to land on DROID X, but nothing happened until now. DROID 2 was rumored to receive the update soon as well, but its users are still running Android 2.2 Froyo.

Hopefully, Motorola and Verizon would indeed manage to deliver the said software update to their users well before the end of the third quarter of the ongoing year, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
