Mobile-phone maker Motorola seems set to deliver an upgrade to Android 2.1 for some of its devices before the end of this month, including the CLIQ and CLIQ XT in the United States. The company announced a while ago that it planned on making the solution available for these devices before the second quarter of the ongoing year came to an end and, since that should happen in about two weeks from now, chances are that June is the lucky time frame for the owners of these devices.

Motorola's Android software upgrade chart shows that the Android 2.1 update is still on track for Q2. The DROID by Motorola has received its share of updates, while Android 2.1 is currently being deployed in stages for Motorola MILESTONE in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Canada, and all that remains to be seen is when things will kick off for CLIQ and CLIQ XT.

“We know you value having the latest and greatest technology on your devices. We are working very closely with Google and our carrier partners to bring you the most optimized experience on each of our smartphones powered by Android; this means appropriately releasing both operating system upgrades and software maintenance updates which enhance device functionality. We will continue to update the information below, regarding the timing and availability of software upgrades, and will provide additional details as we have them to share. We appreciate your understanding and continued support,” Motorola states on its website.

One thing that should be taken into consideration is that said chart only offers info on Motorola's intended plans for software updates delivered to its Android-based devices, and that nothing is known for sure. Updates might get delayed due to various reasons, which means that the Q2 release time frame for the Android 2.1 solution for CLIQ and CLIQ XT might soon turn out to be Q3. However, we'll keep our fingers crossed for Motorola to make the move before June is over.
