The owners of a DROID X by Motorola device now have the possibility to try out a leaked Android 2.2 Froyo update for their handsets, but it seems that it might not be long before the leaked solution is pulled off the web, due to Motorola’s actions in the area.

Enthusiast sites like My Droid World or DROID X Forums have posted a few days ago info on how to download and install the leaked update on DROID X phones, but it seems that Motorola is trying to block users’ access to the ROM.

Cease and desist emails were sent out from Motorola, urging the aforementioned sites to remove software update, and it might not be too long before the mirror links will die.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience but we must oblige Motorola. I am not sure how long the mirrors will be up so if you want to get your Froyo on then now would be a good time,” a post on My Droid World reads.

Reportedly, the said cease and desist emails were sent by Richard Rushing, Senior Director Information Security, Motorola.

For what it’s worth, this is not the first time Motorola takes action against leaked software updates for its devices or against the availability of cooked ROMs for them.

Moreover, the company announced the inclusion of new security measures with its DROID X and DROID 2 Android-based mobile phones, so as to prevent the loading of unauthorized software.

One should not blame the phone maker for trying to make sure that only official solutions are installed on its handsets, but not everybody is happy with the restrictions imposed when it comes to the use of product one paid for, especially since the jailbreaking and rooting of phones were declared legal recently.

All in all, the official Android 2.2 Froyo update for DROID X should not be too far away, as Motorola was rumored to plan releasing it in early September.

In case there are some who might have wanted to get a taste of it earlier but did not manage to download it, they should take a look at the video preview with Froyo on DROID X that emerged a few days ago.
