A new software update was released for the Android-based Motorola BACKFLIP on AT&T's airwaves. According to the release notes of the solution, this is not an operating system upgrade, as many users might have been expecting. However, even if Android 2.1 hasn't been included in the new firmware update, the owners of a Motorola BACKFLIP should still benefit from a nice range of enhancements.

According to the leading handset vendor, the new AT&T Motorola BACKFLIP 13.37 software is an update that would be applied in two steps. The solution comes with a series of improvements for the mobile phone's messaging, display, camera and Bluetooth functionality. Users should enjoy increased performance on their devices as soon as the new update was downloaded and installed on their handsets.

The release notes for AT&T Motorola BACKFLIP 13.37 software include: - General improvements to text messaging - especially for longer message threads - Color and clarity improvements to the display. - Repairs random occurrence of camera application quitting while in use. - Better audio and connectivity to Bluetooth headsets. - Ringtone files no longer have size restrictions. - Improves overall connection to the 3G network. - Improves performance of downloaded applications from the Android Market. - Additional device stability reduces occurrence of unresponsiveness and/or programs quitting unexpectedly. - Improves battery performance when battery is fully drained and charging. - Repairs rare instances of streaming audio and video interruptions that have resulted in device powering off-and-on.

Motorola also notes that users should consider downloading the software solution over a Wi-Fi or 3G network. However, data charges apply when the solution is being downloaded over a mobile network, and Motorola recommends that users would download it over a Wi-Fi network instead. A fully charged battery and an active SIM card installed on the device are required.

Users should be notified automatically when the update is available for their handset. To start the download manually, users would have to head to Settings → About phone → System updates and hit Download. Placing or receiving calls won't be possible during the installation process. All the necessary downloading and installation instructions can be found on Motorola's website here.
