Motorola announced the launch of MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge, a competition that will award two MOTODEV developers with the opportunity to have their winning applications published by mobile entertainment company and contest sponsor I-play.

The MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge is designed to recognize independent developers that are coding to create 'the next big thing' in mobile gaming. Together with title sponsor I-Play and marketing allies such as Sun Microsystems and Microsoft, Motorola encourages MOTODEV developers to enter their unpublished games in one of the two contest categories: "Best Java Software Game" submitted for play on the Motorola MOTOKRZR K1 handset or "Best Windows Mobile Game" for the Motorola MOTO Q family.

"Aligned with the principles of our MOTODEV developer network, the MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge is all about enabling breakthrough innovation and creating the best consumer experiences," said Christy Wyatt, vice president, ecosystem and market development, Motorola. "We're pleased that with I-play and our partners, we can enable developers to really push the envelope in bringing exciting new entertainment offerings to the mobile user."

Opened to all registered MOTODEV developers, the MOTODEV Game Developer Challenge is accepting submissions until August 10, 2007. Judges representing Motorola, I-play, and contest marketing allies will evaluate entries based on uniqueness, fun factor, design, operation and innovation in visual arts and audio. Category winners will be announced in the fall of 2007.

Each category grand prize winner will see their winning mobile title published by I-play. The runners-up in each category will receive the opportunity to meet with the judges and discuss their submission, as well as receive valuable feedback. In addition, all winners will receive a briefcase full of Motorola's latest handsets and a package of I-play's best-selling games.
