Motorola has recently announced that it has opened an LTE trial network and testing lab in Swindon, UK. The mobile phone manufacturer has been expanding its LTE trial facilities lately, and its latest move provides operators with the possibility to start LTE technology field trials as well as detailed real-world equipment testing at the company's UK site.

Besides opening the Swindon site for operators to conduct tests on the LTE technology, the company is also reported to be able to provide carriers with hosting for the core elements of the LTE network in case they would need a hosted LTE trial in EMEA.

“Motorola is at the forefront of 4G development which will address the mobility demands of today's consumers who are looking for personalized media experiences and operators looking to lower their cost per bit and gain a competitive advantage,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president and general manager, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility, EMEA & Asia Pacific. “With our latest trial network we look forward to working closely with our customers in EMEA as they transition to LTE during 2009 and beyond.”

Motorola also announced that its engineers at the LTE lab in Swindon, UK would work on further development of the LTE radio frequency as well as on that of the company's self organizing network (SON). At the same time, the Swindon site is stated to remain a center of excellence for the development of the company's base station transceiver (BTS) for both GSM and LTE technologies.

The mobile phone maker is also working on the development of its LTE solutions in Arlington Heights, Illinois; Fort Worth, Texas; Beijing, China, as well as in Bangalore, India. The company announced that it was working with carriers from North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific to engage in LTE field trial activities.
