The company could release it to all users in the near future

Last week, Motorola and Verizon kicked off the testing period for a new software update for the Motorola DROID RAZR.

That firmware was said to arrive on devices only with a series of enhancements packed inside, but it appears that Motorola might have changed its mind on the matter.

All in all, this could be great news for users, as the company is now said to have started the soak test of Ice Cream Sandwich for the device.

Last week, the company was still working on the Android 4.0 update for the mobile phone, and said that no specific release timeframe for it was decided.

New reports, however, claim that the company turned the soak test for firmware 6.12.181 into the testing of Ice Cream Sandwich, and that users will be able to grab it soon.

The leading handset vendor reportedly confirmed the move in a recent post on its forums, but did not offer any other details on it.

“Looks like we got a surprise people. This regular soak test has now turned into an official soak test for Android 4.0 also known as Ice Cream Sandwich,” a Motorola employee noted in a recent forum post, the guys over at Droid-life report.

“Please subscribe to this feed for updates and more information will be posted as soon as possible. Thanks guys for hanging in there,” the post continued.

Whether Motorola will push out only said software 6.12.181, or the brand new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, users will still benefit from new features and enhancements on their devices.

However, since no official announcement on the matter was made for the time being, we’ll have to wait a bit longer before the mobile phone maker decides to share with us all the necessary details on the new operating system upgrade for DROID RAZR.
