The handset should hit the market before year's end

Motorola Alexander, the next flagship handset to come from the well-known American manufacturer, will be indeed a touchscreen device, as rumored. However, it will not run on Symbian UIQ, as previously believed, but on Windows Mobile 6.1. Moreover, the handset will bring a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out vertically.

As seen in the first available image with Moto Alexander, posted by Boy Genius Report, the new Motorola device seems to be a Pocket PC. You might say that it looks a bit fat, but you should bear in mind that this is not a picture of the real device, it is only an "image of another image", most probably taken from a promo flyer that leaked ahead of its time.

Anyway, looks aside, the highlights of Moto Alexander are said to be the following:

- a high-end camera, of at least 5 Megapixels and most probably with all the features that a good camera should bring (auto focus, flash, image stabilizer and so on). It's said it could even be an 8 Megapixel one, which would make Alexander a direct competitor to Sony Ericsson C905 and Samsung Innov8;

- an NVIDIA chip, which should bring advanced 3D graphics capabilities;

- internal GPS and 3G connectivity;

- plus, of course, the already-mentioned Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, including document viewer and editor, Outlook email and all its other useful features.

In conclusion, what we have here is a high-end "business meets multimedia" handset, which might be quite successful if its retail price is not too high.

As far as rumors go, Motorola should officially announce the Alexander in the next few moths, while the handset's commercial availability is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2008. Most probably, the official name of the new Moto device will not be Alexander, but this is not an important aspect at all.
