14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola announced last week the availability of the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread upgrade for European Motorola ATRIX smartphones.
However, the update was not pushed in all European countries, instead the company stated that it will initially roll out the Gingerbread upgrade for Vodafone Germany and retail ATRIX owners in the Nordic countries.
The good news is that Motorola ATRIX owners living in the UK will now be able to download the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread upgrade OTA (over the air).
The bad news is that the update is only available for unlocked ATRIX units, especially given the fact that most ATRIX owners purchased their devices from Orange or T-Mobile.
Fortunately, Motorola confirmed via its official support forum that Orange UK, as well as the rest of Europe, retail and providers will receive the upgrade within a week.
The latest software update for Motorola ATRIX will upgrade the phone’s firmware to version 45.31.0 and adds several improvements to device performance.
New user interface themes will be available, along with an improved touchscreen keyboard in both landscape and portrait mode.
Power and application management have been improved, while the camera features a new application that allows users to access multiple cameras. There’s also a new download manager and copy/paste functionality.
Other improvements added with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread include new Look10+ user interface, improved task switching, visual panel switcher and organized apps tray.
The update is pushed OTA (over the air), but it is recommended to install the update while the battery is at least 50% charged and with the SIM card inserted.
Those did not received the notification message regarding the new update can search for it manually by going to Settings / About phone / System updates.
On related news, Motorola also confirmed that Motorola ATRIX owners who purchased their devices via Orange France will receive the upgrade before the end of the year.
