Motorola has just started to deploy the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread upgrade for the European version of the Motorola ATRIX smartphone.

Unfortunately, not all Europeans will be able to upgrade their ATRIX devices this week, as Motorola stated that is rolling out the Gingerbread upgrade only for Vodafone ATRIX owners in Germany and retail ATRIX owners in the Nordic countries.

However, the update is deployed in stages, so other countries should begin getting the Gingerbread upgrade early next week, claims Motorola.

The update is pushed OTA (over the air) and upgrades European Motorola ATRIX smarpthones to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. In addition, it brings new features and improvements, including “additional security, new and improved touchscreen and improved power management.”

To manually check for the upgrade users should go to Menu / Settings / About Phone / System Update.
