Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility is reportedly gearing up for the release of an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Motorola ATRIX 4G for the next month, and some details on it started to emerge.

Apparently, an Android 2.3 ROM for Motorola ATRIX 4G has just leaked into the wild, and some people already downloaded and tested it.

Rumor has it that Motorola would be set to deliver it over the air to all of its users starting with July, and that there might be some special treats included in this software as well.

The software update will include not only the Gingerbread operating system version, but also an improved Blur interface from Motorola, and the ability to sideload applications.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Motorola ATRIX 4G was released on shelves at AT&T without the ability to sideload applications, just as other Android-based handsets at this wireless carrier did.

However, the wireless services provider changed this policy recently, following the launch of Amazon's application store for Android.

Motorola ATRIX is one of the most powerful mobile phones in the world, and the Gingerbread OS will certainly appeal a lot to its owners.

According to reports, the update will deliver a smoother UI on ATRIX 4G, something that will certainly translate in a better experience to all users.

At the same time, the new firmware should bring forth enhancements like overscroll glow, application groups and new main applications, as well as all of the improvements in Android 2.3: download and power management, better camera, new keyboard, and more.

Those who gave the leaked ROM a try suggest that Motorola is in the final stages of development with the update, and that there are only a few things that need to be fixed before the software is sent to users.

Some even suggest that the update will bring an unlocked bootloader on ATRIX, following Motorola's announcement that it plans on allowing users to load custom ROMs on its devices, but nothing was confirmed on this for the time being.
