Motorola ATRIX 4G, the dual-core Android-based smartphone that Motorola and AT&T launched a few months ago, is now available for purchase via Amazon for only $49.99 on contract. The handset, touted as the most powerful Android smartphone on the market, offers support for AT&T's HSPA+ network, while packing an Nvidia Tegra 2 application processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM.

Motorola touted the new mobile phone as the most powerful Android smartphone on shelves, courtesy of the powerful processor it includes, and of the amount of RAM, but it seems that things did not go so well for the phone.

Although AT&T says it is happy with the phone's sales, analysts suggest that they were rather slow, and that the ATRIX is not as appealing as one might have expected it to be.

One thing that cannot be denied, however, is that the Motorola ATRIX 4G can offer performance levels on par with those laptops or notebooks can deliver. The fact that it can be paired with a laptop dock, which would enhance its functionality, is a proof of that.

The dock is being sold separately. It would enable users to browse the Internet from their devices using the desktop version of Firefox. ATRIX also comes with a multimedia dock.

The specifications list of the new device includes, in addition to the said processor and RAM, a 4-inch touchscreen display that boasts a qHD (540 x 960 pixel) resolution, along with a fingerprint scanner.

The Android-based mobile phone also comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash, auto focus and HD video recording, as well as with a 3 megapixel camera on the front, for video calling. The usual set of sensors and connectivity capabilities were also included into the mix.

Those of you interested in the purchase of the Motorola ATRIX 4G for only $49.99 should head to Amazon here (via Android and Me).
