AT&T is gearing up for the release of a new dual-core Motorola device

Motorola Mobility has launched more than just one dual-core handset on the market this year, yet the first of them will always remain in the memory of AT&T's customers and not only, the Motorola ATRIX 4G. The handset was supposed to prove the most powerful smartphone of its time, yet other, better spec'd devices took that from it.

However, the successor for the original ATRIX seems set to take that back, or at least to try to make a better impression than the predecessor did.

Apparently, it will indeed manage to do so, at least this is what the guys over at This is my next (soon to become The Verge) show.

The mobile phone was spotted into the wild before under the name of Motorola Edison, and is expected to make an appearance on shelves at AT&T as ATRIX 2 in the near future.

Overall, the mobile device is said to be very appealing, and to feel great in the hand, reminding people of the other recent high-end devices from Motorola, such as the DROID Bionic.

Moreover, the performance capabilities it has to deliver to users are impressive as well, at least this is what some early benchmarking shows.

Motorola ATRIX 2 arrives on shelves with a large 4.3-inch qHD LCD, packs a 1GHz OMAP 4 dual-core application processor inside, and runs under Google's Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread operating system.

The specifications list of this device also includes 1GB of RAM, along with support for the carrier's HSPA+ network, Micro USB and HDMI ports, and 8GB of internal memory, expandable courtesy of a microSD memory card slot.

No specific info on the availability or pricing of this device emerged for the time being, but it should not be too long before all of these details are made available, as the Motorola ATRIX 2 is said to be almost ready for prime time. You can have a look at additional photos with the mobile phone here.
