The latest Moto phone from the Ming series

Motorola just announced the upcoming availability of its latest MotoMing mobile phone, the A1800, a weird-looking PDA-like clamshell phone that resembles the A1200 and A1600 models.

The new Moto A1800 will apparently be available only in China, via China Unicom, the second largest mobile operator in the country. The handset brings a set of pretty nice features, like: a 2.4 touchscreen display with 262K colors, 240 x 320 pixels and handwriting recognition, built-in GPS, a Linux-based OS, a 3 Megapixel camera with auto focus and video recording, Music player (with support for MP3, WAV, AMR, MIDI, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC), Bluetooth, Web and email capabilities, SMS firewall, 150MB of internal memory and microSD card support for up to 4GB.

In terms of connectivity, the A1800 only offers support for tri-band GSM (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) and 800 MHz CDMA network ? no 3G and not even EDGE. Anyway, besides this, the handset packs really good features, as I already said, and since China doesn't have a nationwide 3G network yet, the 2G-only connectivity is actually not a drawback for Chinese users. I guess this is what Moto thought from the beginning, when making the A1800.

Motorola Ming A1800 weighs 123 grams, measures 95 x 52 x 25 millimeters (when closed) and comes with a 1000 mAh battery that can provide up to 300 minutes of talk-time and up to 110 hours of stand-by time.

The retail price of Motorola A1800 is not known for the moment, but users should expect the handset to be on the expensive side.

A full presentation of the new MotorMing phone (plus a video) can be found on the official website of Motorola China, accessible at this address. The site is (obviously) in Chinese, hence users who don?t know the language will have to settle for the short video teaser.
