Heading towards Verizon

Motorola is another mobile phone maker reported to make the move in the Android area, and it seems that the company's first handset to run under the Google operating system will be called Calgary. Not only that it is expected to come with the platform, but the phone is also said to become available before the end of the second quarter of the ongoing year, as part of Verizon's offering.

The most interesting thing about the phone is that it could come with a landscape sliding QWERTY, which would differentiate it from touchscreen handsets like the HTC Magic or the Samsung I7500. In case the phone brings its own unique design, it might very well become quite successful, yet this remains to be seen.

In addition to this phone, Motorola is also reported to be working on an Android handset that will come with a portrait sliding QWERTY, and which is codenamed Ironman. It's not sure whether the maker thought of connecting it to the movie (the colors seem to suggest it didn't), yet this phone could be a hit too.

There are no exact details on the specification list of the device at the moment, yet it seems that it should include about everything that one would expect to see in a high-end mobile phone, such as Wi-Fi connectivity, 3G capabilities, a high-resolution camera and so on, and it should come to the market sometime in the third quarter of 2009.

According to BGR, there are some more tidbits of information on Motorola available, including the fact that the maker canned the full touchscreen Flash and the Inferno (Krave's successor), which might suggest that the company is reconsidering the phones that will have more success on the market. One of them might be a rumored “Rolex,” said to be in the works at the moment, while sporting the ultra-high-res circular display seen with Aura.
