Motorola has announced the availability of the new VC6096 in-vehicle/fixed mount mobile computer. This rugged all-in-one device was designed to maximize drivers’ productivity, but also to reduce costs and improve customer service. Motorola says that the computer is designed to withstand all the rigors of everyday use on the road, while also offering wireless voice and data capabilities for transportation and logistics providers, unlike its predecessors.

Speaking about the device, Brian Viscount, vice president of mobile computing, Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility business said, “The VC6096 improves the efficiency of mobile workers on the road with real-time connectivity and instant communication – when and where they need it.” Viscount further explained that, “By enabling organizations to more quickly, easily and accurately capture relevant driver and vehicle data, enterprises will reduce paperwork and increase efficiency by automating the driver logs, time cards, and highway fuel tax reports.”

Of course, this is definitely not the kind of device of which you could say that it's the most stylish ever, but then again, it was not designed for regular consumers. Instead, it was made with the work force on the roads in mind. Furthermore, by taking a closer look at the specs, anyone can see it is a really well endowed multi-purpose mobile computer, phone and... all the rest.

The VC6096 has integrated 3.5G GSM HSDPA WWAN and 802.11a/b/g WiFi. Motorola also packed in this device a SiRF Star III GPS receiver and Bluetooth, thus, as far as connectivity is concerned, this mobile computer has it all.

The device also has a full QWERTY keyboard, microphone and speakers, and five programmable soft keys. Powered by a 624MHz processor, 128MB of RAM, 256MB Flash, the VC6096 also comes with an SD card slot. As for the OS that makes it all happen, we have the Pro version of Windows Mobile 6.1.
