Sony has confirmed that it plans to release MotorStorm Arctic Edge on September 29. The game is only set to arrive on the PlayStation Portable handheld and there will be two versions on offer, one on the familiar UMD drive and another that can be downloaded by those who are interested in getting the PSP Go!, which is set to be officially released on October 1.

The company is saying that a version of the title for the older PlayStation 2 home gaming console will also be delivered to interested players but has not specified any date for that release.

As the name implies, Arctic Edge is set to take the player to the frozen land mass of Alaska, with racing taking place on terrains that range from rain soaked mud to frozen dirt.

There will be six vehicle classes featured, all taken from the previous videogames in the series, ranging from small and nimble buggies to powerful but rather hard to control trucks.

Each of them will be somewhat harder to steer on the frozen surfaces of Alaska and Sony has taken the liberty to also introduce two vehicles that are tundra specific, the Snowcat and the Snow Machine. Arctic Edge is also set to offer gamers a chance to customize all of their rides, adding parts to improve performance a bit and also putting on various decals and stickers.

Sony is also offering players an incentive to pick up the new Motorstorm title early. Those who get Arctic Edge in the first 30 days on sales are set to receive a code that will allow them to download a Mirage Rapide rally car and some new skins from the PlayStation Network. It's not clear whether those who plan to get the title on the PSP Go! will also be able to take advantage of this offer.
