14 DAY TRIAL // A few days ago the FCC approved one of the new Motorola phones that the US-based producer included in its 2008 line-up. We're talking about Motorola L800t, or Moto Yintai, as it appears on the FCC website. The handset was first spotted in the middle of April (when Motorola's roadmap for China was unveiled), together with 8 other phones that should debut this year.
Motorola L800t is not a high-end device, as some of the above mentioned ones are, but a handset that enters the mid-to-low end category. Most probably, the Moto Yintai will soon be available across China, being one of the first phones to work on the new 3G / TD-SCDMA network that's currently being deployed in the Asian country.
Since the 3G capabilities of the phone are limited to the TD-SCDMA frequencies (that exist only in China), the availability of Yintai in the US raises a big question mark. Anyway, the handset could be offered to work only on the GSM networks, as it's not the first and neither the last phone launched in the US without 3G compatibility.
In terms of design, Motorola L800t resembles the ROKR E8 model, hence it's a candybar that comes with a flat, morphing keypad and a 5-way navigation key. The handset's display seems to be a bit smaller than the one of E8 (2 inches), so it's probably a 1.8 inch one.
Other known features included in the L800t are: a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, secondary video-call camera in the front, Bluetooth, Media player, Web browser, preset games, Notepad, multimedia messaging (MMS), flight (airplane) mode and speakerphone. Plus, we have the usual range of features that almost any phone comes with, including alarm, calculator, calendar, unit converter, currency converter, world clock and stopwatch.
Until some official details regarding the Yintai / L800t phone come out, both its availability and its price will remain unknown. Anyway, Motorola will probably put an affordable price tag on the handset, so users who find it attractive have all the chances to buy it without paying too much.
