Moto X, the latest Android-based smartphone from Motorola, is reportedly set to receive a price cut in the fourth quarter of the year, one that would bring its price tag down to only $100 (€75) on contract.

At the moment, the smartphone is available for purchase at $199 (€150) with the signing of an agreement with AT&T or Verizon, yet it seems that Google and Motorola will drop its cost to increase sales.

The info comes from Twitter user @evleaks and hasn’t been officially confirmed for the time being.

Furthermore, the same source suggests that the wood back cases for the Moto X will arrive in the fourth quarter of the year at $50 (€38).

It’s rather surprising that the smartphone would receive a price cut so soon after being officially released, although it’s not unusual for phone makers to reduce the cost of their handsets, as droid-life notes.
