A Chinese clamshell

When anyone hears Moto, regarding mobile phones, they're bound to think about Motorola, since it is a widely known mobile phone manufacturer.

The mobile phone pictured here is named Moto-Tex W6180, and has recently been approved by the Federal Communications Commission. Motorola hasn't undergone a name change and hasn't launched a phone family named TEX.

In fact, Motorola has absolutely nothing to do with this phone, even if some may think it looks similar to Motorola phones, with its metallic RAZR-like keypad. Apparently, Moto-Tex is an import company that deals with clothing.

The W6180, even though bearing the Moto-Tex brand, will apparently be released by a Chinese vendor.

The mobile phone comes with tri-band 900/1800/1900 Mhz support, a media player with support for MP3 and MPEG 4 file formats (MPEG4 is stamped both on the inside and outside of the phone, which strongly suggests that it's Chinese manufactured), dedicated music controls on the front side, a VGA camera with video recording capabilities, 64-tones polyphony, a 1.8 inch 260k color screen and a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion.

Judging from the photos, the mobile phone is running Windows Mobile, but there is absolutely no mention of that on the FCC, and frankly, there's little chance of including the OS on a mobile phone that can in the best case be considered mid-class.

The phone measures 88.5x42.5x16.3 mm and other details haven't been made available so far. Clearly, it will be heading towards the US, but there's no way to tell when it will be made available, where it can be purchased or for what price.
