Moto G, the latest Android-based smartphone from Motorola, has officially become available for purchase in India today, exclusively through Flipkart, but it sold out fast.

The initial stock of the handset was depleted in less than an hour, but the retailer restocked it, only to sell out the 16GB model soon after.

Furthermore, it appears that it has also pushed back the phone’s shipment to those who ordered it, at least this is what some of the affected customers report.

In a comment posted on the retailer’s website, someone unveils that Flipkart won’t deliver their smartphone until February 17, although it was initially supposed to ship it on February 10.

“Due to reasons beyond our control, we had to revise the delivery timeline to 17-02-2014 from the earlier 10-02-2014. We sincerely apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience in this matter,” the retailer reportedly said in an email.

At the moment, Moto G 16GB is listed at Flipkart as out of stock, but the 8GB model is still available for purchase, with a 2-3 business days delivery timeframe.

Motorola and Flipkart have the handset priced at Rs. 13,999 ($224/€166) for the larger capacity, and sell it at Rs. 12,499 ($200/€148) with 8GB of internal memory.

Moto G is the cheapest handset in Motorola’s current lineup, offering entry-level hardware specifications and capabilities to those interested in purchasing it.

The phone comes with a 4.5-inch HD touchscreen display and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM.

Moreover, Moto G features a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3MP front camera for video calling, and runs under the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system.

The phone was launched in India with dual-SIM capabilities packed inside and it should be updated to the newer Android 4.4 KitKat platform in the near future.
