Starting today, mobile phone users in the United States can purchase the new Moto G smartphone from Motorola, as the handset becomes available through the handset vendor’s website, unlocked and SIM-free.

Just as announced a few weeks back, when Moto G became official, the smartphone is available for purchase at only $179 (€132) with 8GB of internal memory.

Those who would like to grab the 16GB model, however, will have to pay $199 (€148) for it. Users should also keep in mind that only the GSM flavor of the phone is available for purchase now.

Fort those out of the loop, we should note that the mobile phone arrives on shelves with a 4.5-inch HD display, while being powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Furthermore, the smartphone features 1GB of RAM inside, no MicroSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, and Adreno 305 graphics.

On the back, the new mobile phone sports a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, HDR and support for HD video recording, paired with a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls.

Moto G also packs a Li-Ion 2070 mAh battery that can deliver up to 24 hours of take time, HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth 4.0.

At the moment, Motorola’s new smartphone runs under the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, but it should receive an upgrade to the Android 4.4 KitKat platform release in January.

The phone also provides users with a variety of customization options, courtesy of interchangeable back covers.

“Stylish design with a comfortable curved back and 19 customization options, including interchangeable backs (coming soon) - Motorola Shells and Flip Shells in seven colors as well as Grip Shells in five colors,” Motorola notes.

The handset vendor also plans on making the CDMA variant of Moto G available in the United States, though only in January.
