Canadian wireless carrier Virgin Mobile has added yet another appealing smartphone to its offering, in the form of Moto G, the latest, cheapest smartphone from Motorola.

The company actually promised the launch of this device a while ago, but it did not provide specific info on when it will be put up for sale until now.

As MobileSyrup notes, it was clear that the launch would take place in the near future since the carrier started testing the new mobile phone on its network last week, and all went official yesterday.

Today, the Moto G is up for grabs through the wireless carrier on all of its monthly plans and features a price tag of $150 (€99) if purchased without an agreement. Those who go for a contract, however, will receive the phone for free.

As can be seen, Moto G is a very cheap device, though its hardware specifications are not as low as one may think, and it can still deliver offer performance capabilities.

The smartphone was launched with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor.

Moreover, the mobile phone landed on shelves with 1GB of RAM, as well as with 8GB of internal memory (a 16GB model was also announced). On top of that, Moto G users will receive 50GB of free space on Google Drive, but only for a limited period of time.

On the back, it packs a 5-megapixel camera that can still offer pretty decent video recording capabilities and that is paired with a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls.

Moto G is powered by a 2070mAh battery that should provide enough juice for an entire day of usage, the wireless carrier notes on its website.

Motorola has launched the Moto G with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, but it has already updated it to the newer Android 4.4 KitKat platform release. In fact, Virgin Mobile’s version of the device arrives on shelves with a newer OS version right from the start.

Overall, Moto G is a good handset, even if some might see it as being too cheap. Motorola has launched it in an attempt to grab some more market share in the smartphone segment, and the device has already managed to live up to the expectations.

Users in Canada interested in the purchase of Moto G on Virgin Mobile’s network should head over to this page on the wireless carrier’s online portal for that.
