Moto G, the latest Android-based smartphone from Motorola, has been officially unveiled to the world today during an event that has been streamed online on YouTube.

The handset will arrive on shelves as a mid-range device, featuring a 4.5-inch 720p touchscreen display (329 ppi) and a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm 400 processor packed inside.

Furthermore, the new handset will feature 1GB of RAM inside and will be available in two different versions, one with 8GB of internal memory, and another with 16GB of storage. No info on memory expansion features has been provided.

Just as previous rumors on the device suggested, the specifications list of Moto G also includes a 5-megapixel rear camera, capable of recording videos in HD resolution, as well as a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls.

The new smartphone also features the usual set of connectivity options, as well as a series of personalization features, such as colorful interchangeable back covers.

Moto G will hit shelves with Google’s Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, but it is set to get a taste of Android 4.4 KitKat in the near future.

In fact, Motorola said during the launch event that the phone would be upgraded to the newer OS flavor in January next year.

The smartphone will be offered in the United States with an off-contract price tag of $179 (€133) attached to it, for the 8GB model. The 16GB variant, instead, will be priced at $199 (€148), Motorola announced.

The handset vendor also unveiled that, starting today, the new device can be purchased in Brazil and in some parts of Europe. Motorola will launch the phone in Canada and other countries in November, and will bring the phone to more markets soon after.

Users in the United States will be able to grab the handset starting with January, the same as those in India, Motorola said.
