Moto G, the cheapest Android-based smartphone from Motorola before the release of Moto E, is seeing a series of connectivity issues in India, due to an IMEI error, Motorola has officially announced on Saturday.

The problem appears to affect Moto G devices with dual-SIM capabilities inside, and was caused by the fact that the IMEI numbers attached to them hasn’t been registered with wireless carriers as of yet.

Basically, some of those who have purchased the Moto G will see that their phones cannot connect to a wireless network, which renders them almost useless.

However, Motorola is aware of the situation, and has already issued a statement on the matter, informing users on the cause of this problem. The company also confirmed that it was working with carriers to resolve the situation.

Apparently, those affected by the problem should have received a notification on the matter from Flipkart as well, which means that they need to check their email, provided they haven’t done that already.

“Dear ‪#‎MotoG‬ customers, we’ve uncovered an activation problem with some #MotoG devices sold in India as they have been shipped with IMEI numbers that are not yet registered with carriers,” Motorola said in the aforementioned statement, posted on Facebook.

“If you have recently purchased a Moto G and have network connectivity problems this may apply to you. This is due to a programming error from our end and we owe you a big apology!”

At the same time, the mobile phone maker assured users that it was working on resolving the problem in the shortest period of time possible.

“We are working around the clock to resolve this. If you are impacted, we've sent you an email via Flipkart to explain everything and what we're doing to make it right,” the company said.

Apparently, Flipkart is also offering INR 1200 (around $20 / €15) wallet credit to all those who purchased a Moto G device and stumbled upon the aforementioned problem, a recent post on AndroidOS reads.

As mentioned above, all the necessary details on the matter have been emailed to customers. They are also offered with the possibility to either have their handsets replaced with working units, or to wait for a fix to be delivered to them.

Moreover, affected customers are also provided with the option to return the faulty handsets. Flipkart promises a full refund to all those who will chose to do so.

There’s no telling on how long Motorola will need in order to resolve the issue, but more on the matter might emerge soon, so stay tuned to learn the news.
