Mobile phone maker Motorola is getting ready for the launch of its Moto G smartphone on the market in India, and it appears set to do so in the last week of the month, new reports on the matter suggest.

According to a recent article on TOI, Motorola itself confirmed last week during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that the cheap handset would be launched in the country around the end of January.

One thing that the company hasn’t announced as of now is the price tag that the Android phone will sport, though it plans on launching it at a competitive cost, it seems.

William Moss, director of corporate communication at Motorola Mobility, reportedly said that the handset “is going to be price competitive... if you look at what the device offers, the kind of responsiveness and performance it has, Moto G will be competitive with its peers.”

Moreover, the company is said to have already found a distribution partner for the mobile phone, though specifics on the matter haven’t been offered as of now.

“Right now our plan is to announce Moto G in India with a partner in the last week of January,” Steve Sinclair, vice president of global marketing at Motorola Mobility, confirmed.

Moto G lands on shelves with a 4.5-inch screen capable of delivering a 720p resolution, while being powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, paired with 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone also features 8GB/16GB of internal memory, a 5-megapixel camera on the back, and 1.3MP front camera.

Motorola has already started to deliver the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS upgrade to the device in various markets out there, and chances are that it will release it in India with this platform loaded on top right from the beginning.

What remains to be seen is how well Moto G will fare in the country when compared to local brands such as Micromax and Lava. The two companies don’t seem concerned about the availability of the affordable device there.
