Elizabeth Escalona of Dallas, Texas, was sentenced on Friday, following a trial in which it was proven she had physically abused her toddler. She was sentenced to 99 years in jail.

Two-year-old Jocelyn Cedillo was put into a coma by her own mother, after being hit in the stomach and having her hands superglued to a wall, the Mirror reports.

At the time when she was admitted to the hospital, she had bruises all over her body, as well as bite marks, she had suffered a rib fracture and was experiencing bleeding in her brain. The little girl went into a coma for two days.

Young mother of five Elizabeth Escalona was made an example of, with a 99-year sentence. Prosecutors had only asked for a 45 years suspended sentence, but literally got more than they bargained for.

State District Judge Larry Mitchell made the final ruling. She explained her decision by assessing that Escalona had “savagely beat” her toddler and was therefore punishable according to the law.

Escalona had attacked her daughter in 2011, because the child was experiencing potty training problems. She reportedly kicked her daughter in the stomach repeatedly, then proceeded to beat her with a milk jug and glued her hands to the wall.

According to the Inquisitr, Elizabeth Escalona will be eligible for parole in 30 years, although defense attorneys do plan to appeal the sentencing.

While on the stands, she showed signs of remorse, and pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her. As prosecutors showed her a picture of her wounded daughter, bruises and marks all over her tiny face, she burst into tears.

“Ms. Escalona, if you can do it, you can look at it,” prosecutor Eren Price responded.
