Police officers in Delavan, Wisconsin are now trying to find out who is responsible for the death of a mother snapping turtle. The animal's body was discovered on a local golf course on Monday morning.

After analyzing the wounds on its body, officials working with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources concluded that it had most likely been beaten to death with golf clubs.

To make matters even worse, it appears that the turtle was killed while it was looking for a place to nest.

Whoever killed the turtle hit it so hard that its shell cracked open. One of the blows badly damaged the turtle's right eye, HuffPost reports.

A $6,000 (€4,497) dollar reward awaits the person that can offer any information that might help police officers catch the people who abused the turtle in this gruesome manner.
