When Kate Ogg gave birth to twins prematurely, doctors told her that one of her newborn babies hadn't survived the arduous birth. But after the grieving mother cuddled her son to say goodbye, something really extraordinary happened – the brave boy started to show signs of life.

Kate and David Ogg, from Australia, were very excited when they found out they were expecting a set of fraternal twins, male and female, but when Kate went into labor after just 27 weeks of pregnancy, doctors told them that only the girl, Emily, survived, and declared their son Jamie clinically dead.

However, the new mom asked to hold her baby to say goodbye, Opposing Views reports. She placed the apparently lifeless body on her bare chest, and she and her husband started talking to their son. After just five minutes, Jamie began to move gasping for air, but the doctors said it was just a reflexive action and not a sign of life.

The woman continued cuddling him and after about two hours, a miracle happened: the tiny baby opened his eyes and started to move regularly, growing stronger and stronger in his mother’s arms.

“I’d carried him inside me for only six months – not long enough – but I wanted to meet him, and to hold him, and for him to know us,” Kate said. “We’d resigned ourselves to the fact that we were going to lose him, and we were just trying to make the most of those last, precious moments.”

After showing the first signs of life, the blue bundle of joy began feeding and astonished medics, who couldn't find a logical explanation for his miracle recovery.

The baby's parents were equally mystified by what had happened, but were extremely happy that instead of goodbye they had the chance to say hello to their little baby.

What saved David and Kate's son was the fact that she cuddled the baby and allowed him to feel her warmth. They were actually practicing what Australians call “kangaroo care,” when an infant is held skin-to-skin to the mother who's generating heat for the newborn, just like a baby kangaroo receives in its mother’s pouch.

“Luckily I've got a very strong, very smart wife. She instinctively did what she did. If she hadn't done that, Jamie probably wouldn't be here,” David proudly said of his wife.

This extraordinary event occurred in March 2010, but was again brought to media's attention these days as a way to celebrate motherhood and the miracle of life in preparation for the Mother's Day.
