Don't smoke marijuana, kids! That's the lesson that you can learn from Amanda Bynes and her mother, who has taken an active role in her daughter's life to make sure that she doesn't stray from the path of righteousness anymore.

Lynn Bynes is now speaking up about her daughter's wacky behavior from last year and she's defending the actress, who has since been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. “Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar,” the mother tells Us Weekly, through her attorney.

The same statement alleges that all the trouble Amanda got herself into was caused by marijuana abuse: “She is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana.”

If you remember, back in May 2013, Amanda was arrested for throwing a bong out a window from her New York high rise apartment. Then there was that incident also last year when she tried to set fire to a neighbor's driveway.

The actress was entered in a facility where it was widely considered that she was being treated for a mental illness. She was released into the custody of her parents in December last year, and she has been reported to be piecing her life back together, enrolling in fashion design school and also hopping in Mexico, across the border, for spring break.

The woman continues with details about her daughter's mental health by saying, “Amanda currently is on zero medication. She's devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life, but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible.”

This is an improvement from her state prior to being treated at the Malibu facility, as well as the psych ward at the UCLA Medical Center. But, despite the time spent there and the treatment she's received, her mother would have us believe that it was only drugs that made Amanda act erratic.

As part of her outrageous behavior, Amanda also filled her Twitter with offending posts, lashing out at people in the current media. After she was released from therapy, she deleted those tweets and replaced them with drawings from fashion courses as well as well wishes for her fans, indicating that she had indeed turned over a new leaf.

On April 5 she captioned a photo of herself on spring break in a neon bikini that showed off her svelte figure with “Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes.”
