Stars fall in love fast – and snap out of it just as fast

We’re nearing the end of the year, so that means that now is the best time to stop and have a look back at some of the best and not-so-amazing moments of 2014 in showbiz. In between scandals, fancy wedding parties and all kinds of appearances and PR stunts to promote various projects, stars also got media attention for falling in love – and out of it.

So today we’ll be looking at some of the most surprising celebrity breakups of 2014. As a rule, showbiz isn’t the kind of environment that encourages lifelong romances or any kind of relationships, for that matter, so stars fall in love hard and fast, and then snap out of it just as quickly.

Still, there are exceptions. In 2014, some of Hollywood’s most famous “golden couples” have called it quits as well, to the disappointment of their collective fanbases – and you will find them below.

Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter

This one is the more recent split, with a rep for the former couple confirming it just before Christmas: the two met on the set of “Planet of the Apes” and fell in love, and were a couple for 13 years. They have 2 children together but were never married. In fact, their relationship has been unconventional from the start, because they didn’t even live in the same house while together.

Juicy gossip claims that director Burton, who would refer to Helena as his “muse,” cheated on her with some “mysterious” woman he was photographed kissing earlier this year. The rep wouldn’t say if infidelity was the reason for the split, but he did stress that the two remained good friends for the sake of the kids.

Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy

Kate Hudson likes to keep her personal life as private as possible, but she was so thrilled when Muse rocker Matt Bellamy proposed to her in 2011 that she wouldn’t stop speaking about it in her TV appearances or print interviews.

The two never set a wedding date, with some reports even saying that Kate wasn’t too keen on marriage, not after her divorce from her first husband. She and Matt have a son together, and a publicist confirmed that the breakup occurred earlier this year.

Henry Cavill and Gina Carano

These two made up a celebrity couple that didn’t get too much attention in the mainstream media, but plenty of love online, among the fans. When Cavill broke up with the MMA fighter last year and started dating Kaley Cuoco, everyone suspected that he was being forced into a showmance because he had “Man of Steel” coming out and he needed more exposure in the US media before becoming Superman.

After the fling ended and he got back with Carano, even more fans became convinced that the Cuoco affair was a PR stunt. So when Cavill and Carano adopted a puppy, they assumed they were in it for the long run – but they split this month, presumably because of their packed schedules.

Charlie Sheen and Brett Rossi

Charlie Sheen is nothing without his adult stars Goddesses, so he seemed to have found the perfect way to instill some stability in his life while still getting to hang out with “his type”: he got engaged to one such adult star.

The relationship between Sheen and Brett Rossi was, what else, explosive from the start, but he actually got down on one knee and proposed to her on Valentine’s Day. They were supposed to marry later in 2014, but in October, Sheen revealed that the engagement was off because he wanted to spend more time with his kids. Off the record, rumors claimed that she’d turned into Bridezilla and wanted full control over his finances, which Sheen didn’t agree with. At all.

Mama June and Sugar Bear (June Shannon and Mike Thompson)

These two count as celebrities only because they were once TLC’s biggest export, the stars of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Honey Boo Boo’s parents seemed made for each other in redneck heaven, and they even got hitched in a symbolic ceremony the previous year, which was then turned into a TLC special.

In September, the two issued a statement to say that they had broken up, presumably because June had caught Sugar Bear, like the Casanova that he is, trolling dating sites looking for ladies to hook up with. It is believed that the split was a PR stunt to drive interest in their show, which seems to have been confirmed by the fact that they’re together again – what has changed though is that they no longer have a reality show, because Mama June was caught sleeping with the man who did 10 years in jail for molesting her own daughter.

Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa

Talk about having it all and losing it in a blink of an eye! Amber Rose moved from the failed romance with Kanye West and found love again in the arms of another rapper, Wiz Khalifa – and they seemed to adore each other to no end!

They confirmed they were a couple in 2011, had a baby boy together and were married, and shortly after their wedding anniversary, when they shared with the world their first photo as bride and groom, they broke up. Infidelity accusations started flying from all sides and the split threatened to become nasty – and public, on social media. They eventually cooled down enough to understand their focus should be their son, and they stopped throwing dirt at each other.

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

No one thought these two would make it a year, let alone 6, but confirmation that the marriage was over still came as a shock. Nick confirmed this summer that he and Mariah had not lived under the same roof for months and that they were discussing all arrangements before filing the divorce papers, trying to make the experience as painless as possible for their twins, Morocco and Monroe.

Today, talks have stalled, presumably because they didn’t have a prenup and Mariah stands to lose a good chunk of her huge fortune. Apparently, she was always too much of a diva for Nick’s taste, but things got particularly bad when he went on a radio show and boasted about sleeping with Kim Kardashian.

Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult

One of the cutest and most private couples in showbiz put up a very good fight, but was forced to call it quits in the end. Jennifer and Nicholas started dating in early 2011 and broke up for the first time 2 years later, when her schedule became so packed that she was almost always on the road, working on a new project.

They got back together last summer but broke up shortly afterwards, this time for good. She moved on with Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow’s soon-to-be-ex-husband, and he is believed to be romancing Kristen Stewart, with whom he is working on a new movie. Hollywood does look a lot like your favorite soap opera, does it not?

Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart

Jennifer Lopez won’t be called a cougar because she believes women have just as much right as men to date someone younger. To rebound from her marriage from Marc Anthony, she hooked up with one of her backup dancers (she does have a thing for dancers!), Casper Smart, who was 24 (and she was 42).

In almost no time, Casper became her tour choreographer and would accompany her even on promo interviews, where she would introduce him as “Bear,” so everyone was suspicious when she went on a world tour without him. It turned out that he was back in LA, trying to pick up transgender models online, hoping no one would find out. Jennifer broke up with him after that.

Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas

Here is another “golden couple” that bit the dust in 2014: these two were married for 18 years and had been together through thick and thin, including drug and alcohol addiction, rehab programs and emotional issues.

They seemed to have found the secret to a balanced, healthy, loving relationship, but his infidelity drove the final nail in the coffin of their marriage and they broke up. Melanie has his name encased in a heart tattooed on her upper arm and she is yet to have it removed. She’s no longer hoping they might get back together, though.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow actually managed to make divorce sound fancier and more pretentious, when she shocked the world by announcing that she and Chris Martin, the frontman for Coldplay who had been her husband for 11 years, had decided to “consciously uncouple” after long consideration and discussions.

The two have 2 children together and have maintained the split amicable so far: so amicable that they even went on holiday to Hawaii together right after the separation announcement. He dated Jennifer Lawrence for a few months, but as far as the media knows, Gwyneth is still single.
