Passengers aiming for a free subway ride must complete 30 squats in two minutes

Russia is putting emphasis on health and fitness by offering free subway rides in exchange for squats.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, devices that estimate how much exercise you do are available in Moscow subway stations.

You have to complete an exercise routine to be awarded a ticket. More specifically, you must do 30 squats in two minutes to be dubbed fit enough. A ride currently costs passengers about 30 rubles ($0.9 / €0.7).

The program is meant to instill "Olympic values" in the general population and have them add them to their commute.

Synchronized swimming champion Maria Kiseleva details that the project has been developed by the Russian Olympic Committee.

They aim to have the public become involved in the “Olympic movement,” in preparation of the Olympic games at the Black Sea city of Sochi in February.
