Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has confirmed that the upcoming Mortal Kombat X won't have bonus characters like the previous one, which included the likes of Kratos from the God of War series, although different cover artwork is possible.

Mortal Kombat X was revealed earlier this week and a lot of longtime franchise fans got really excited about the next entry in the brutal fighting game series, especially due to the cinematic video of fan favorites Subzero and Scorpion brawling in a spooky forest.

Since then, franchise co-creator Ed Boon has been answering questions from fans and has just confirmed that the next title won't feature bonus fighters, in the vein of its predecessor, the simply titled Mortal Kombat, which had God of War's Kratos as a bonus and really powerful combatant.

"Is Kratos coming on Mortal Kombat X?" a fan asked on Twitter. "Not likely. He was awesome in MK9 but we dont wanna repeat," Boon replied.

Boon was also presented with a bit of concept box arts for the game's PS4 and Xbox One editions, one showing Subzero and the other with Scorpion. The developer was pretty interested in the pitch, saying that, "It would be interesting to put Scorpion on the PS4 box and Subzero on the XboxOne box. Hmmmm."

Mortal Kombat X has been confirmed for a 2015 launch on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
