Mortal Kombat X is going to draw in newcomers to the fighting genre with lots of different single-player content, as developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. know that not everyone will want to go online and fight against other people who usually have much more experience than they do.

Mortal Kombat X launches later this spring and quite a lot of different details, videos and screenshots have already been shared by studio NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros., showcasing the fighting game's various characters, features, and mechanics.

A lot of single-player content is coming in Mortal Kombat X

Besides delivering the same ultra-violent gameplay that's a trademark of the franchise, Mortal Kombat X is also going to emphasize different single-player content, according to Warner Bros. Marketing Manager Brian Goodman.

He talked with GamesIndustry about the fact that newcomers would have way more story-based content to devour in Mortal Kombat X than they did in previous entries in the series. From the all-new story campaign that emphasizes the lore of the Mortal Kombat universe to other secondary modes, newcomers won't be forced to go up against other humans until they're ready and confident in their skills.

"We want to bring more people into our game and we're doing that by giving them a great fighting game and then adding a ton of content to that," Goodman says. "We've implemented a lot more single player content. Story mode has been a huge mode for us in attracting more people into the genre, attracting more people to our game in general."

Among other single-player content that will make Mortal Kombat X stand out are modes like the Factions one, which allows players to work together and help their own group win weekly events. The Living Towers also bring forth various challenges that help players master various mechanics, without having to go online against other humans.

You can expect Warner Bros. and NetherRealm to share more about the features of Mortal Kombat X as we get closer to the game's launch in April for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
