NetherRealm Studios makes quite a stir with the recently released Mortal Kombat X, witnessing the biggest launch in the franchise's 23 years of existence.

The fighting video game is deserving of all the attention, bringing a ton of new gameplay features to the table and one of the biggest and most exciting rosters ever.

Launched on April 14 worldwide, on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the game introduces a host of brand new fighters, as well as three character variations for each of the characters, among other things.

Since the series' reboot in 2011, followed by the DC Universe-themed Injustice: Gods Among Us, more and more fans have been picking up NetherRealm's fighting video games.

This culminated with the title's launch at the very top of the UK software charts at retail, and this week, the information compiled by physical sales tracking firm Chart Track shows that Mortal Kombat X is still at number one.

The first three games by retail sales volume see no change from last week, Mortal Kombat X being followed by Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V and Visceral Games' Battlefield Hardline, the cops and robbers adaptation of Battlefield, the reputable military first-person shooter series.

Beyond the podium

At number 4 we see Minecraft: PlayStation Edition, followed at number 6 by Minecraft: Xbox Edition, with FIFA 15, a mainstay of the charts, resting at number 5.

Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare follows at spot number 7, with Techland's first-person zombie survival title, Dying Light, occupying the eight position in the top.

2K's Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and WWE 2K15 close the top ten, with Bloodborne, the PS4-exclusive action role-playing game from Japanese developer From Software, landing at position number 12.

From Software's other recent release, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, is found at spot number 19, down two positions from last week.

The biggest surprise by far is the resurgence of Haemimont Games' dictator and city building sim, Tropico 5, landing at number 18 thanks to its debut on the PS4 home console from Sony.
