The development team at NetherRealms Studios and publisher Warner Bros. are announcing that they are preparing a series of eSports tournaments for Mortal Kombat X, which are set to take place starting in April and will allow the community to see high-level play for the new fighting game experience.

The three events will have a prize pool that starts at 100,000 dollars (90,000 Euro) and gamers can help to increase it by picking up the official Blue Steel skin for Sub-Zero, with the two companies moving some of the revenue to make sure that the prizes for the events are higher.

The first major tournament for Mortal Kombat X is called the Fatal 8 Exhibition Tournament and will take place on April 11.

Gamers who are interested can pick up tickets for it right now or they can choose to simply watch the matches on the official Twitch channel of the development team.

On April 19, a worldwide Mortal Kombat X ESL Pro League Tournament will start in North America and in Europe only for Xbox One players, with a weekly schedule which will see the best 16 gamers going to a final set of matches set to take place on July 11 in Los Angeles.

A Mortal Kombat Cup will also start in April and will run through June, with gamers from 17 countries able to compete for a chance to go to the Japan Expo in Paris on July 5 to take part in the finals.

Mortal Kombat X aims to introduce new mechanics to the franchise

The new video game from NetherRealms is designed to take the ideas that the studio has pioneered for Injustice: Gods Among Us and bring them back into one of the quintessential franchises of the fighting game genre.

Mortal Kombat X will add a bunch of new fighters, some of them connected via blood with older regulars, and also features a new faction system.

Gamers will also have more ways to interact with the environment in order to hurt their enemies, and the special powers have been tweaked for better balance.

Mortal Kombat X will also introduce a new Quitality concept which is designed to encourage players to stay in a match even if they are losing the actual battle.
