The developers are working on delivering a solution

The latest Kombat Kast livestream from NetherRealm Studios informed that a patch for the PC edition of Mortal Kombat X would be issued yesterday night, meant to bring it to the state of the console version.

Well, things apparently didn't go exactly as planned, as it turns out that the update introduced a pretty game-breaking issue. While it isn't yet clear whether the update made the PC version able to trade punches with the console edition of MKX, one thing is for certain: it erased a lot of players' save files.

The PC port was not handled by NetherRealm Studios, but instead by High Voltage Software, the same company that handled the buggy and low-performing PC versions of Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

While many people stated their preference for a playable experience over keeping their current progress, the consensus among Steam users is that they would rather have the game fixed AND keep their saved games at the same time.

Gamers have also reported failing to restore their save data by using backups, and there's no telling what will happen to those who only saved their data offline, on their hard drives.

Losing progress is universally seen as a pretty bad thing

In addition to losing their progress, many users also reported some other troublesome consequences of last night's patch, namely being locked out of certain resolutions, resulting in abnormal visual behaviors.

The company acted pretty promptly, pulling the nefarious patch while the issue gets investigated, and apologizing for any inconvenience caused in the interim.

"We continue to work on the fix for Save Data Loss. In order to ensure it is properly tested, we will look to post the fix early tomorrow. Again, we thank you for your patience and your input," the developer posted on the Steam boards.

Mortal Kombat X was released last month, and is now available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are expected to drop sometime later this year.
