Mortal Kombat X, the next game in the fighting series from NetherRealm, has just received some more details straight from co-creator Ed Boon, as he talked about the general gameplay and what the studio wants to accomplish with the online mode.

Mortal Kombat X was revealed to the world a few weeks ago and millions of franchise fans have devoured every bit of new info that appeared since then.

At E3 2014 last month, co-creator Ed Boon talked quite a lot about the next iteration in the franchise, and now the developer has sat down with GRTV to share even more details about Mortal Kombat X and how it was an evolution of the last game in the series that appeared back in 2011.

According to Boon, the X-Ray Fatalities that showed the gruesome combat moves in all their glory were quite appreciated by fans, so NetherRealm doesn't want to mess with what isn't broken.

"The X-Ray move was something that players really embraced in the last Mortal Kombat game," he said. "So we really wanted to start with the foundation of Mortal Kombat 9, which was 2011's Mortal Kombat, and add on top of there the three variations of characters and on top of that there is the backgrounds and being able to jump, and propel yourself, leverage yourself on the environments."

Boon also emphasized some of the wacky characters that will appear in Mortal Kombat X, detailing one of the new ones called Ferra/Torr and how it consists of a big guy and a little lady on his back.

"They're some of the wildest characters that we've introduced into the mix since the beginning. One of our characters is called Ferra/Torr and he is this big, hulking character with kind of a little lady that's on his back. And she's giving him orders, he's throwing her at the opponent kind of like as a projectile, she's stabbing him and getting all mad. So it's a really crazy brawling character."

Boon also mentioned a few loose details about Mortal Kombat X's multiplayer mode and how his team wants to deliver a persistent experience that's more than just competitive matches with other people online.

"It is basically a persistent online game that everybody participates in," Boon explained. "So we'll give you more details later, but it's something where we really want people getting online all playing this big meta game."

You can bet that more Mortal Kombat X details will be posted at a later point in time by Boon and his NetherRealm team.
