Developer NetherRealm Studios has just released a new gameplay video from the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, introducing the mighty sorcerer Quan Chi.

Ed Boon, one of the makers of the original fighting video game that ignited the entire franchise, teased us on Twitter yesterday, in the same manner he did before making the announcement about MKX.

Now we got a brand new gameplay video on our hands, showing the nefarious sorcerer in all his glory, dropping on unsuspecting foes, as his nasty habit goes.

Quan Chi makes a return in MKX

Quan Chi is a proper evil character, and the trailer does him justice, portraying him as deliciously unsavory and menacing as ever.

The video comes with narration from Mortal Kombat X Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick, explaining Quan Chi's three variations, including the summoner variant, where he can evoke a beast from the Netherrealm to fight on his side, an intriguing mechanic that wasn't used in previous installments in the series.

The Sorcerer Quan Chi variant enhances the fighter's special moves, weakening his opponent and increasing his offensive spell power. His spells occupy certain areas of the arena, enabling the fighter to play a powerful control game.

The Warlock Quan Chi variation enables the sorcerer to open inter-dimensional portals, allowing players to create unpredictable combos and completely dominate the battlefield.

The trailer concludes with a deadly X-Ray move and gives us a peak at one of Quan Chi's fatalities, an especially gruesome way to finish off an opponent.

A lot of new faces

Mortal Kombat X will see the return of Quan Chi, alongside the likes of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kano, Raiden and Goro, but the upcoming brawler is also said to introduce a crazy number of new characters to the experience.

So far NetherRealm Studios has revealed D'Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Ferra/Torr and Cassie Cage as new warriors that fans will be able to play as when the game comes out, but the developer promised many more to come.

The game will expand on the epic story-telling delivery pioneered with Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us, taking players on a journey spanning 25 years, and introducing them to innovative gameplay mechanics that enhance the brutal experience the series has accustomed us with.

Mortal Kombat X is currently scheduled to come out on April 14, 2014, worldwide. The fighting video game will be available on PC, on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 home consoles from Sony, and on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One entertainment systems from Microsoft.
