NetherRealms Studios, as the developer, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, as the publisher, have announced that fans of the Mortal Kombat series will be able to get a Kollector's Edition for the newest title in the franchise.

The new package will be available in limited numbers and will allow fans to get a number of exclusives that will enhance their experience of the fighting game.

Here's what fans of the series will get:

- a “Kollectible” figurine of Scorpion and Sub-Zero; - an exclusive art book weighting in at more than 110 pages which shows of how the style of the game evolves though both sketches and game art; - in-game exclusive Retro Ninja costume, usable by for Ermac; - on the Xbox 360 a chance to customize the player's Xbox Live avatar with a set of clothes that are based on Mortal Kombat; - on the PlayStation 3 a set of exclusive Mortal Kombat avatars and themes.

The new Mortal Kombat aims to bring the series back to its roots, with a lot of violence included in the moves of the characters and especially the fatality system, and a focus on fast and fun gameplay.

Players will be able to be competitive quickly after picking up a character but only those who invest time and memory resources to learn the best combos and special moves will be able to keep a winning streak going.

Ed Boon, who is the creator of the Mortal Kombat series, says that the narrative of the new game will be a reboot of the story, telling the player events that cover the themes of the first three titles in the franchise.

The new Mortal Kombat, in both its normal and Kollector's Edition forms, will be launched on April 19 in North America and on April 21 in Europe, on both the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Neither NetherRealms nor Warner Bros. has talked about a possible PC version of the game.
