Mortal Kombat is one of the fighting genre's classics, but over time the franchise has gone a little under. The game experienced a temporary revival in 2011, with the confusingly titled Mortal Kombat, despite it being the ninth installment in the series, but things have been pretty quiet ever since.

Fans of the long-standing series have always manifested interest in some new Mortal Kombat games showing up, but they have also confessed that they would be content to experience the old ones on new platforms, specifically Mortal Kombat 1 through 3, on Nintendo's Wii U.

In spite of the Mortal Kombat series' affiliation with Nintendo's consoles, especially during the SNES and Nintendo 64 era, the 2011 video game was not released on any of the Japanese company's platforms, leaving many fans yearning for some MK-related content.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon responded to a series of fan questions on Twitter, mentioning that there is a chance of around 0.0 percent for classic Mortal Kombat titles to be released on the Wii U Virtual Console.

"When thinking about the Wii U and controller, I would like to think we will do something innovative and cool. When you see that screen and controller in there, to me things start connecting in terms of what we can do with our game, enhancing the experience," Boon stated back in 2011.

Nothing has happened so far, and the situation of Mortal Kombat fans grows even more dire, now that the NetherRealm Studio creative director says that there is no chance the classic MK titles will make it on the virtual console.
