Morrissey, former frontman for the legendary The Smiths, was performing at the Oasis Centre in Swindon, England, on Saturday night, when he suddenly collapsed, seemingly unable to breathe. He was immediately removed from the stage when it became clear he had lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital, where he has remained to this hour, The Telegraph informs.

A spokesperson for the legendary singer would not say what was wrong with him, but he did say that he was doing much better. When the ambulance arrived at the venue, Morrissey was reportedly unconscious. Given the many reports and rumors now circulating, as well as the obvious unwillingness to offer more details on behalf of the singer’s camp, some fans believe he had a heart attack. At the same time, the theory that this mysterious “illness” Morrissey has goes back longer than just this weekend’s show is also a viable one, some British media outlets argue.

“Eyewitnesses said he performed his hit song ‘This Charming Man’ before ‘falling to the floor’ and was then carried off by technical crew. Images show the singer, wearing a light grey open-necked short and black trousers, on stage looking drawn. He said to the 1,000-strong audience: ‘Good evening... probably,’ before performing The Smiths’ 1983 hit. Onlookers said he appeared to be ‘straining’ to perform the song, ‘wincing’ as he did so. They said that as he came to the end of the song his knees sagged and he slumped to the stage.” The Telegraph writes.

“Morrissey has been admitted to the Great Western Hospital. He is being reviewed by the medical staff and his condition is stable.” a spokesperson for the Great Western Hospital told the British media in the hours after the call for an ambulance was made. Fans, on the other hand, were initially divided as regards what to make of the latest cancellation, with some even booing out loud when a crew member took the stage to say that Morrissey could not continue with the show.

The 50-year-old singer is currently in the middle of a world tour, as fans must know, but he’s already canceled a handful of shows due to an “unspecified illness,” which made some fans believe the collapse was not as serious as it seemed.
